    POSITION INFORMATIONThis position reports to an Automotive Equipment Coordinator and is responsible for conducting routine non-mechanical vehicle inspections and scheduling and transporting the Department's fleet of law enforcement emergency pursuit and surveillance vehicles to contracted vendors for preventive maintenance, services, and repairs.
  • Schedules the maintenance, service, repairs, and towing of law enforcement emergency pursuit and surveillance vehicles and related emergency equipment.
  • Conducts routine non-mechanical vehicle inspections such as checking for missing safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguisher, radio, reflector triangles, first aid kit, jack, tire iron, and road flares), body damage, validity of parking permits and placards, correct tire pressure and fluid levels, broken and inoperable windows, and worn out tires and brakes. Documents and reports relevant findings resulting from inspections and orders vehicle safety equipment, miscellaneous parts, or necessary vehicle documentation.
  • Replaces or ensures all vehicles contain the necessary County documents required to file accident reports, insurance paperwork, and title registration; and are outfitted with standard safety and emergency equipment (e.g., emergency lights, siren, and police radio).
  • Drives vehicles that require maintenance, service, and repair to and from departmental facilities and County vendors and dealerships; and drops off replacement vehicles to investigators and other law enforcement personnel.
  • Obtains, processes, and maintains all vehicle related information, forms, and other documents including service records, mileage, maintenance, repair estimates, title registration, insurance, and warranties.
  • Maintains physical files and electronic database and generates reports to monitor use, assignment, registration, maintenance, service, equipment recall and installation, repair, and collision damage of all vehicles in the fleet.
  • SELECTION REQUIREMENTSOne (1) year of paid experience scheduling the maintenance and repair of a group of automotive vehicles*.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

Qualified applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of appointment. Driver's License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS THREE (3) OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS IN ONE (1) YEAR WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.

PHYSICAL CLASS
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
  • Group of automotive vehicles: Maintenance and repair of three (3) or more automotive vehicles.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo and pass a thorough background investigation, including a fingerprint search prior to appointment.

    Examples of disqualifying factors are:
  • Any felony conviction or conviction of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
  • Job related misdemeanor convictions.
  • Certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations such as three (3) moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at-fault accidents; or applicant placed on a three (3) year probation.
  • Poor credit history.
  • Poor employment history.
  • Substance abuse.
  • Driving under the influence.
  • EXAMINATION CONTENTThis examination will consist of one (1) part:

1. Rating from Record weighted 100%. A Rating from Record will evaluate the applicants training and experience based on the information provided on the online application at the time of filing.

Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the Rating from Record in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of 12 months following the date of promulgation.

Applications will be processed on an as received basis.

RETAKE
No person may compete for this examination more than once every 12 months.

VACANCY INFORMATION
The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the District Attorney's Office, Bureau of Investigation.

AVAILABLE AREA/SHIFT
Applicants must be willing and able to work Any Area of Los Angeles County and Any Shift (including evenings, nights, and weekends).
