Summary
Ballast Investments (Ballast or The Company) is seeking an Accountant, Accounts Payable to support the Accounts Payable vertical. Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, Accounts Payable, the Accountant, Accounts Payable is responsible for processing invoices received for payments, compiling, and maintaining account payable records, and assisting the Treasury team as needed.
The Company is a vertically-integrated owner-operator of multifamily, student housing, and single family rental assets in the greater Western United States. The Company has several strategic partnerships with global institutional capital providers and has experienced strong growth since its founding in 2014.

Primary Responsibilities
Process, verify, and reconcile invoices
Review account reconciliations and schedules for accuracy
Attend to vendor inquiries and resolve payment issues
Obtain W-9 forms and appropriate backup, as needed
Analyze and process utility and property tax payments
Assist in year-end tax preparation and audit schedule preparation
Monitor trackers and setup payments and forms for various taxes and fees
Perform general accounting duties including data input, filing, scanning, and organizing
Other duties as assigned by upper management
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting or business required or equivalent classes from a 4-year college
Minimum 2 years or more accounting work experience
1+ years of experience with property accounting for joint ventures for institutional real estate investments
Real estate and/or construction and/or property management experience required
Proficient Excel skills required (filters, sorting, pivot tables, V lookup, index and match etc.)
Accounting software experience required; Yardi experience preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP rules and regulations preferred
Key Skills and Competencies
Detail oriented and able to process large volumes of data with speed and accuracy
Able to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
Able to maintain efficient filing and records retention of financial documents
Strong accounting background including experience with revenue and tenant level transactions
Able to work cross-functionally with other teams including but not limited to legal team, acquisition team, management team, treasury team and finance team
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to communicate internally with team members
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products and Microsoft Windows
